This is my second time reading this book and I picked it up again because I felt like I was risking my life too much and it was affecting my core. I still have a chapter to go, but here's the summary.

++The four agreements audiobook++

The book cites four commonalities that, with practice, will lead you to a happier state of life, essentially and dramatically, out of your living hell. The idea is 100% focused on you. You can only control yourself and honor only yourself.

1. Be impeccable with your word. Your word is your power to create the events in your life. You can create positive or destructive events. Spotless means "without sin". So the idea here is that you use your word without sinning against yourself. You take responsibility for your actions, but you don't judge or blame yourself. There is a big difference. And if you practice your impeccable word, don't you think that the same actions that could have made you more likely to judge and blame yourself will diminish and it will be easier to really know the difference between taking responsibility and punishing yourself ( over and over again?)? .

2. Don't take anything personally. Don't take compliments, insults, or anything in between personally. If you know who you are and are impeccable with your word (i.e., be yourself, don't go against yourself), you'll get better and better by not letting others dictate how you feel about yourself. This particular chapter that I struggle with because I personally love building people up by showing them what I think about them and what I think about who they are. It's weird for me to tell someone something negative unless I'm trying to be a friend to help them through something and they need it. However, I will read this again to try and make more sense and understanding.

3. Don't make assumptions. This almost needs no comment. We do this all the time. I know what I am doing. You hear someone explain their situation and as it is, you sum it up in your own words in your head, filling in the blanks because you want the whole picture. But it's not the whole picture, because instead of asking questions to fill in the blanks, he used his own experience and assumptions to do this.

4. Always do your best not to judge or punish yourself. Do things because you want to do them and do your best, not for a reward. Enjoy your life. Live it now. And your best effort may not be the same every day if you're sick or tired or have been the victim of a beating. Doing your best also means doing your best with the above 3 agreements and means that you will not always fulfill your wish to always respect them. But it's best for you, so don't judge yourself. - Comments: 0
